Photography, for me, is a form of self-expression. The images I create blur the lines of photography and painting, resulting in abstract compositions that draw inspiration from painters like Mark Rothko, Jasper Johns, and Barnett Newman and photographers such as Aaron Siskind and Walker Evans. The sources for my works are the post-industrial towns and cities of the Northeast United States: remnants of places long forgotten and once left to decay as time slowly passes, but are now in fact growing and changing; layers of paint and residue that build up and crumble away; the patina of time. The purpose of my photographs, however, is not to merely document these places, but to allow the images to transcend their subject matter and become subjective expressions.
